Our sound is levitational mix that blends all kinds of dance music: House (Tech, Progressive, Electro, Funky), Breaks, Dubstep, Downtempo, World, Funk, Drum n Bass, Glitch and Chillout. Our mission is simply this: To offer an environment that honors all whom enter our safe haven of creative dance expression, where we celebrate the Joyful Self, Universal Spirit and Underground Dance Community. We offer two rooms: The Dance Sanctuary offers over 3,000 square feet of comfortable wooden floors on which to dance your devotion and sweat your prayers to the audio alchemy of bay area guest DJ’s and resident DJ Dragonfly. The Chillspace, where your listening pleasure is taken on an entirely different journey as aural pharmaceuticals are mixed by resident and guest ambient DJs. It's a softly lit place where you can stretch out under a nomad's tent, drink chai and exotic teas, sample handcrafted tinctures and flower essences, have your body adorned by henna body artists, sit with tarot readers and astrologers. The Chillspace often hosts an hour or more of live music, featuring the exotic idioms of of the near and far east. Past artists have soothed the souls with instrumentation as diverse as Tuvan throat singing, electronically looped sitar, oud, yalli tambour, sarod and mbira, bansuri flute, didgeridoo...to name a few. Okay, okay...we are a dance event first. The DJs are there as your sonic shamans to guide you through an inexplicable journey where the beats thicken like a plot and the grooves twist like a tale. A really good tale. In fact we have been graced by some of the most unwaveringly excellent DJs at our various events (just check out the past flyers on the website here). Many of the visiting bands, too, are at the forefront of the Bay Area's dance scene. In fact we have been privy to a number of artists who have slipped us previews of their upcoming works allowing us to spin their tracks before the public ear gets a hold. So join us for whatever your good intention might be - we'll shake your bones in all directions, spirit your soul with a global palette of grooves and send you home with a smile and twinkle - till the next first Saturday of the month, when we'll see you again for another helping from The Garden. |
